Arrest Made After Massive Car Fire In Hampton

A woman was arrested after a massive car fire on Thursday morning in Hampton, police said.

During the first few hours of a significant snow storm that blanketed most of New England with large amounts of snow, responders battled a fire on Exeter Road in Hampton that burned a red 1997 Pontiac Firebird.

Hampton police said responding officers arrived and found the Pontiac fully engulfed in flames. Although no driver was immediately identified on the scene, officers allegedly found footprints leading to a nearby wooded area where a woman, whom police believe to be the operator of the vehicle, was found just south of the fire.

The woman was identified as Alicia Leonardi, 38, of Hampton, and was arrested by officers and charged with driving after suspension or revocation and false reports to law enforcement, both misdemeanors. Police said Leonardi's license was suspended, adding that she had a previous driving-after-suspension charge in August.

Police said that after Leonardi was located she allegedly told officers that she was not the driver of the vehicle, although police's investigation into the incident determined that Leonardi was indeed the driver, police said.

No injuries were reported in relation to the incident, per police.
