Maine still has what has been referred to as the “Blue Law” in effect, which prevents big-box retailers from opening their stores on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

You may have seen big flyers coming out advertising sales, but retailers like Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Lowe’s and Kohls will not be open in that state.

According to WMTW 8 ABC, the only big box store exception is L.L. Bean, which was grandfathered in and is allowed to open.

It’s a welcome relief to many families that have loved ones that work at the big box retailers. Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday, the hottest day of the year for retail sales.

Thanksgiving is a time for families together, there is time enough to shop later. But most states, unlike Maine, will have stores open.

Of course, that doesn’t mean all stores are closed.

According to WMTW 8 ABC, many pharmacies such as Walgreens, chain restaurants, local restaurants, convenience stores, and movie theaters will be open.

Check with your local retailer to see if they will be open if you need to shop on Thanksgiving.
