Massachusetts’ Famous Ipswich Clam Box Gets Replica in the Spotlight
It's a building like no other. The large gray shingles provide a perfect exterior to what is actually a larger than life clam box.
The shape of the Clam Box of Ipswich, Massachusetts is unique and totally a New England design, with the flaps of the square shaped building reaching up to the sky.
You've seen it either in person or in photos before, but you've never seen this iconic building like this.
If you drive past the Clam Box you are immediately intoxicated by the aroma of fried clams, scallops, oysters, shrimp, or any other seafood as it wafts through the air bringing you into the door.
I wouldn't want to live nearby or I'd be hungry all the time with the fried essence.
Richard Josselyn loves the Clam Box. He loves their fried clams (don't we all?) with a side of onion rings and slaw. Josselyn is also a model railroader with a basement layout any enthusiast would love to admire.
Richard spent many weeks perfecting his Clam Box replica right down to the shingles and the sign, "Since 1935 Clam Box". He built by hand the entire clam kingdom layout, and paid close attention to details.
Details are what separate the good model railroaders from the amateurs. Lighting up the interior, getting the red and white striped awning just right, and perfecting the "box top". It looks like the real thing, and that's what the best modelists aim to do.
After being shared to the Clam Box of Ipswich Facebook page, it blew up from there, and led Josselyn to the title of #1 model railroader fan of the historic business, and a $30 gift card. Well done, Richard.
