Downtown Dover Prepares For Gargantuan Sugar Rush

Sugar alert! In a genius move, a massive new sweets emporium is opening in front of the Children's Museum in Dover.

According to Fosters Daily Democrat, the owner of Durham's The Candy Bar will open a new store in downtown Dover's Cocheco Mill. Far from simply a candy store, it'll feature a chocolate production area, plus an ice cream shop. In total, the new Lickee’s & Chewy’s Candies & Creamery will operate on 5,000 square feet.

One of the toughest issues facing every local ice cream lover is the off-season, when certain favorites close for the winter. With Lickee’s & Chewy’s Candies & Creamery, fans will be able to get ice cream year round.

Owner Chris Guerrette told Fosters he is wary of giving an opening day, but said the store should be ready by August at the latest. Guerrette retired after 24 years in the Air Force, opened the location in Durham a few years ago, and success there has caused him to expand into the large space in Dover.
