Touchdown for Boston Kids: Gronk Opens Epic New Playground
The amazing retired New England Patriots superstar, Rob Gronkowski has come back to Boston to do something incredible.
According to WCVB, Gronk has officially opened the Gronk Playground an amazing football themed space that been years in the making.
It’s in the Charles River Reservation Esplanade and the Gronk Playground is a complete renovation of the old Charlesbank Playground.
It’s a $2 million dollar project that gives love to Boston landmarks and quotes that are inspirational from sports legends. Everywhere you look there is football flair and Gronk called it all “a day to celebrate.”
As per the article, the grand opening took 4 years to get to and Gronk started his labor of love back in 2021 when he donated $1.2 million and gave an oversized check that he referred to as the “Happy Gilmore check.”
Check out the video from CBS Boston of Gronk announcing the playground below.

The ceremony of course was emotional as Gronk was joined by Patriots owner Robert Kraft who supported him in this labor of love.
The Governor Maura Healey along with Boston Marathon icon, Meb Keflezighi was also there to support.
Gronk says,
"I thought of the idea to give back to the Boston area for all of the love and support the city and New England fans have shown me throughout my career,"
"Since day 1, even if I was acting like an idiot, they loved it."
This new venture Gronk built gives kids a space to play and dream big, and that’s exactly why he did it.
For all Boston families this is more than just a playground, it’s a true reminder of athletes who have impacted us all in the best way possible.
