The street.life! 400 sitdown dinner in Portsmouth is postponed until Wednesday because of the forecast calling for rain.

The sold-out event, which will turn downtown Portsmouth into a giant dinner party, will now take place Wednesday as widespread showers are forecast for Tuesday. Wednesday's forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high during the day near 80.

"Mother Nature calls the shots, as she has for more than 400 years," co-sponsor The Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth said in a statement.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception on Pleasant Street followed by dinner of lobster, chicken, and corn and entertainment at 7 p.m. Dessert of historically-inspired Portsmouth orange cake follows with the the evening's surprise finale at 8:45 p.m.

To accommodate the event, the City of Portsmouth is closing the following streets to vehicular traffic and restricting parking on Wednesday, August 16:

Church Street will be closed to vehicles, with no parking allowed from 6 am on Wednesday, August 16, to 6 am on Wednesday, August 16.

The following streets will have no parking starting at 6 am on August 16, and will then be closed to vehicles as follows:

6 am – 11 pm High Street from Congress Street to Ladd Street
6 am – 11 pm Ladd Street
6 am – 11 pm Chestnut Street from Congress Street to Porter Street
9 am – 11 pm Pleasant Street from Porter Street to Market Square
The following streets will have NO PARKING starting at 8 am on August 16 and will then be closed to vehicles, as follows:

11 am – 11 pm Congress Street
11 am – 11 pm Daniel Street from Penhallow Street to Market Square
11 am – 11 pm Market Street from Bow Street to Market Square
11 am – 11 pm Fleet Street from Porter Street to Hanover Street
