This NH Cruise Takes You Out on Squam Lake to Spot Its Threatened Loons
The older I get, the more I realize I'm slowly turning into my parents and grandparents. Years ago, I never would have imagined getting excited about bird watching!
Now? If there's a chance to enjoy nature, soak in some fresh air, and spend time on the water, count me in.
That's exactly why Loon Cruise on Squam Lake has me written all over it!
Not only is it a fun and unique way to get yourself outdoors, but it's also a chance to slow down, breathe in the fresh New Hampshire air, and appreciate the beauty that's right in our own backyard.
These days, it's challenging not to be glued to your phone or staring at laptop screens. So any chance I get to reboot, I take it.
The Loon Cruise will pair guests with a biologist from the Loon Preservation Committee and a Science Center, who will share the latest information on loon biology, conservation efforts, and the work being done to protect these iconic birds throughout the Granite State. How cool is that?
The route changes each week based on loon activity, giving visitors the best opportunity to spot loons in their natural habitat. In fact, New Hampshire is home to the southernmost breeding population of "common loons".
Even if you don't consider yourself a bird enthusiast, the views alone are worth the trip. Between the peaceful ride across Squam Lake and the chance to learn something new, it feels like the perfect way to spend a summer day.
And as an added bonus, a portion of the proceeds supports the Loon Preservation Committee and its mission to protect these beloved birds.
Maybe it's true what they say... the older you get, the more you appreciate the simple things. And honestly, a relaxing cruise, beautiful scenery, and the chance to spot a loon sounds pretty perfect to me.
