Massachusetts Middle Schooler Goes to ER During Matinee Performance & Returns for Evening Show
Talk about a feel-good story right in our backyard.
This one actually comes from the middle school that I attended, Pentucket Regional, so this is definitely a proud alma mater moment for me.
Paige Souliotis was playing the part of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family Young@Part at Pentucket Regional Middle School on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
Halfway through the afternoon matinee, the middle schooler did a twist and went down hard.
"My first, initial thought was, 'Is she improvising right now? Are we acting still?'" said castmate Brooke Pipan, according to a WCVB article.
She was not acting. Souliotis was in serious pain.
"Once I'm like, 'Close the curtains! Mom, get up here!' Everybody was like, 'Oh, she actually hurt herself,'" said Souliotis, according to WCVB.
The middle schooler had dislocated her patella.
If you are not familiar with this kind of pain, let me tell you from firsthand experience, it is excruciating. I had the same injury in a hockey game when I was 18. I was down and out for months. In tremendous pain, I could not move around in a wheelchair or crutches for weeks.
Not Paige Souliotis, though. She is one tough middle schooler.
After being taken to Lawrence General Hospital during the 2 PM show, Souliotis returned for the 7 PM show...the same night.
Although in a wheelchair, the middle schooler was able to perform her role as Wednesday to the best of her ability.
Truly a showing of perseverance. After all, the show must go on.
