Every year, more than 1,300 America's small cities are judged on 45 indicators of livability.  For example, how expensive is it to live there, how good are the schools and how many restaurants are there.

Three towns in Massachusetts landed in the 99th percentile which represents the Top 1% of small cities in America.  All this, according to Wallethub.com.

Here Are 3 Massachusetts Small Cities in the Top 1% in America

  • Lexington, Massachusetts
  • Arlington, Massachusetts
  • Milton, Massachusetts

Those three Massachusetts small cities are the only ones in New England that made the Top 1% best in the entire country.

Lexington, Massachusetts is where the Revolutionary War began. It is also home to the famous Minuteman statue. It is around 13 miles from Boston.

Arlington is even closer to Boston than Lexington at about 6 miles away.

Milton, Mass is South of Boston by about 10 miles and my favorite from the choices here.  Not that I don't like Lexington or Arlington, but Milton has a beautiful river that flows through it and it's only 20 minutes from Gillette Stadium.

All of these towns are popular with professors, doctors and students who have to work or study in Boston, yet they want the small city feel.

The WalletHub study did take into account the cost of living and as you know if you live in the Commonwealth, it is not cheap to live here.  However, the other factors about living a good life came up in very good numbers for these three small cities, so it made up for the high cost of living.
