Massive Spaulding Turnpike Project Will Clear Major Hurdle

They haven't been 'Boston traffic problems,' but they've been ours for a while. However, commuters could soon be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

For years, the massive highway project, stretching from Portsmouth to Rochester has seen progress. However, it's still tough to sit in two lane traffic approaching Little Bay Bridge with a clear lane just sitting there. How many times have you uttered "when are they going to open this lane?!" Or, let's be honest, a variation of that.

Well, how about by summer?

According to Fosters.com, contractors Severino Trucking, plan to open the third lane for northbound traffic over Little Bay that would extend to the new Exit 6 off-ramp in Dover. Project engineer Adam Chestnut told Fosters “As soon as we move the traffic into the three-lane configuration, that lane drop goes away. It should really improve how motorists flow through that area.”

Officials are hoping to have it open by Memorial Day Weekend (which would be awesome). If not, by early June. The $287.4 million dollar project is on target to be completed by the end of next year.
