Big things are happening with the Nashua Police Department.

The Nashua Police Department announced on Facebook that they have a new officer of the four legged variety.

K9 Kyzar will join Officer Turcotte to form the NPD’s Newest Canine Team!

The department previously announced the retirement of another four legged officer, Arex.  Arex turned in his badge earlier this week after 7 years of loyal service.

Nashua Police Department has a long history with their canine team.

According to Nashuapd.com, the police canine unit was formed back in 1995.  Local businesses contributed to the high cost of starting the unit, including Pets Mart, which supplies all of the food for the dogs at no cost to the department.

Other area businesses have also supported the Nashua P.D. in this endeavor with money and supplies to keep the unit going.

In addition to helping with stopping crime, Nashuapd.com says the canine unit is a tremendous for public relations.

The department regularly participates in community related programs including demonstrations with the k-9 officers, as well as schools, annual law enforcement shows, and demonstrations during Citizens Academies.

Congratulations to Kyzar, and thank you for your service, Arex!
