National Walking Day
Today is National Walking Day, so lace up your sneakers and get moving!
I love to walk. Plain and simple. If I could, I would walk everywhere year-round. However, living in New England makes that impossible. But, TODAY is 'National Walking Day.' A day the American Heart Association reminds you just how healthy a quick 30-minute walk can be. Research has shown, according to the AHA,that walking 30 minutes each day can:
- Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
- Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
- Improve blood lipid profile
- Maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity
- Enhance mental well being
- Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
- Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer
- Reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes
So come on...lace 'em up and get yourself moving. (It's also a great stress reliever!)
