Here’s a List of 5 New Hampshire Restaurants That Closed in May 2026
May 2026 marked the end for a number of New Hampshire restaurants.
You've got a four-decade-old pizza place, a decade-long spot from a James Beard award-winner, a small cafe, a dog bar/restaurant/park, and a sandwich shop closing in one Granite State location to move to another.
Some of these were here for the short term. Some were around for a long time. All of them had an impact while they were here. Let's take a look at some of the latest places to close in New Hampshire.

The one that hits the most for me is the closure of River Bend in Dover, New Hampshire.
This place had one of the best pizzas in the state and was a guaranteed stop-in anytime I was in the area. (I wish I'd known about them sooner!)
River Bend established itself as one of those places embedded in the community, making an impact beyond just the delicious food, and really cementing it as a local institution.
On the positive side of things, owners Bob and Cindy Shaw got to go out on their own terms, announcing their retirement on Facebook after 41 years in business.
It's no surprise there was such an outpouring of love, support, and bittersweet feelings from people, as evidenced by the numerous comments and reactions on social media.
Some people from away even flew in for one last chance to get a favorite meal there. It's certainly a place that will hold lasting memories long after it's closed.
Let's take a look at some of the other spots that ended their runs in May.

It's interesting to note the variety of circumstances that led to the multiple closures: leases ending, retirement, relocation, and financial hardship.
It's especially tough to see places like Anne's Cafe or Bark & Bevy only get to stick around for a few months, further highlighting just how hard it can be to keep a restaurant afloat even with the best of intentions and endeavors.
A report from the Research Archive of Rising Scholars cites that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says about "60% of restaurants fail within their first five years." It's a tough business for sure.
