Appointments and other convenience services implemented during the pandemic are here to stay at New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicle offices.

Implemented at the start of the pandemic to reduce the number of customers at branch offices the appointments along with drop boxes and mail-in services have proven to be popular, according to DMV Director Elizabeth Bielecki.

The services include:

  • Online – Make appointments, renew a driver license or non-driver ID, request a duplicate driver license or non-driver ID, pay or plead not guilty to a ticket. Go online at dmv.nh.gov.
  • Drop Boxes – Use drop boxes, available outside of all full-time DMV locations, for most transactions.
  • Mail – Conduct a variety of transactions through the mail.

“To avoid waiting in line, customers are encouraged to use the appointment system,” Bielecki said in a statement. “Our customers have told us repeatedly they love the appointments and want these services to stay because they’re easy to use, more efficient, and greatly preferred to waiting in long lines.”

Walk-in services are available, customers with an appointment will be given priority.

Bielecki said the deadline to get a Real ID license has been extended until May 3, 2023. Customers with expiring Real ID licenses or non-driver IDs may renew online, if eligible.

Many services were transitioned online at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 with a limited number of branch offices, including the Dover location on Boston Harbor Road open for walk-in. Deadlines were extended for expiring licenses and registrations and driving tests canceled.

The offices were gradually reopened through the summer and driving tests again became available.
