After Tennessee’s Viral Slip & Slide for Seniors, Will New Hampshire, Maine, or Massachusetts Be Next?
Oh please, please, please. I don't ask for much, but can we please make this happen here in New Hampshire, Maine or Massachusetts?
Did you hear about the giant slip-and-slide that one Tennessee Community sets up for their Senior and even disabled residents?
The story was reported by WRAL and Nashville Island News that this giant slip and slide has been a tradition since 2021.
Here's how it works:
- Local Fire Departments come out and hose down a giant plastic tarp. From the report, it looks like there are bubbles also involved. BUBBLES!
- THEN, they blow up a big pool chair that sits on the slip and slide. The Senior residents are then helped onto the chair by firefighters and local athletes. Once they feel secure, one of the strong firefighter, athlete or anyone else who can, gets on each side of the chair and hold on to a rope.
- Then, both strong people on either side of the senior resident start running along side of the slip and slide, giving the senior rider joy and laughter as they glide and slide!
One of the organizers of the event says that they can feel like a kid again!
One of the men who did the slide had Alzheimer's and his wife is his caregiver. You could just see the joy on both of their faces after he did his ride.
Even if someone is in a wheelchair, the firefighters and strong people can help that person onto the chair.
My GOD, people, let's do this. Doesn't this sound like the best thing ever?
The Senior Population in NH and Beyond Goes Mostly Unnoticed and Ignored
We will get back to the bubbles in a second, but to be serious for a minute, the senior population needs our help, love and attention. Many times, they are overlooked by our busy lives and erroneous thinking that our loved ones are just fine. I can tell you from experience with my family, they are not.
The senior population in this country is depressed and lonely; generally without anyone giving it a second thought. It's heartbreaking.
When I saw this story, I thought, "C'mon, Sarah! Let's try to do this here in New Hampshire! Or Maine! Or Massachusetts! Oh, dare to dream... all three.

There are a ton of senior care facilities in NH that, I'm assuming, would jump at the chance to give their residents some respite from their aches, pains and emotional distress for just a few moments of laughter and joy by screaming down a slip and slide.
