The Dover Police Department is telling residents to take precautions in the wake of a jump in thefts last month.

There were 63 thefts in the city in August and that represents a 41% increase over August 2014. Police advise that you make sure you lock your cars and homes as a preventative measure. According to NH1 the rise in thefts in Dover comes at a time when thefts in Rochester have declined as compared to last year.

Dover Police say you should keep electronic devices out of sight as to not tempt potential thieves. Keeping areas well lit can help as well. The number to contact them is 603-742-4646. Dover Police posted their warnings on their Facebook page yesterday.
