Cat people have a bad rap.

I mean, dog people are obsessed with dogs, I am one of them...but no one judges us.

But if you love or own multiple cats, you become the "cat lady," and people throw shade.

Well, people in Maine and New Hampshire can no longer make fun of cat people...

Maine and New Hampshire are two of the most cat-loving states in the country. According to a cat.com ranking, 44% of households in Maine have at least one cat or more. That's pretty much every other neighbor on your street having a cat.

New Hampshire was not far behind, with 36% of households owning a cat. In a neighborhood with 10 houses, four will have cats.

Other factors go into making a state "cat-loving" or "cat-crazed." New Hampshire's adoption rate is among the highest in the country at 93% - that's something to be proud of, and likely why many households have a cat.

In addition, New Hampshire has the most pet stores, compared to population, of any other state. So the resources for cat supplies are large - we do have a lot of Tractor Supply.
