The definition of late night in this instance is midnight on Saturday. Perhaps you've enjoyed a couple of drinks, it's been awhile since you've eaten and you're not ready to go home just yet.

FRIENDLY TOAST

The best thing about The Friendly Toast is the atmosphere. The food and the service pendulates from great to not so great, but the vibe always seems to make it worthwhile. If you've got a buzz going, you're not really going to sweat the details.

GILLEY'S

There really isn't a better place to people watch in Portsmouth than Gilley's. It's noisy, it's crowded, it's greasy and it's perfect. Cheese fries and a hot dog loaded to the gill(ey)s, please.

ROUNDABOUT DINER

The banana cream pie at The Roundabout Diner is so good, I'm breaking the rules I made at the beginning. The Roundabout used to offer stay open all weekend whereas now they close up at 11pm. No matter, start your night with their legendary dessert and you'll have no regrets.

HONORABLE MENTION: Joe's NY Pizza on Congress St. Great option for slices and open until about 2am on weekends.
