Everyone that has a dog loves to give them special treats. But be careful about which treats you are giving your four-legged friend. The FDA has received about 68 reports of pet illnesses, and 15 dogs have died after eating bone treats, according to CBS Boston.

CBS Boston reports these treats differ from uncooked, butcher-type bones because they are processed and packaged for sale as dog treats.  They're usually dried through a smoking process or by baking, and may contain preservatives, seasonings, and smoke flavorings.

The station reports that dog treats on the list include: “Ham Bones,” “Pork Femur Bones,” “Rib Bones,” and “Smokey Knuckle Bones.”

According to CBS Boston, illnesses reported to the FDA that have eaten bone treats include:

Gastrointestinal obstruction
Choking
Cuts and wounds in the mouth or on the tonsils
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Bleeding from the rectum.

Now that Christmas is almost here, many of us will be buying even more special treats for our pups. Please be mindful of what you're giving your dog.
