Unless you live under a rock, you are well aware of the two movies that broke the box office this summer.

I am talking about Barbie and Oppenheimer.

"Combined, the incongruous duo collected $235.5 million in a single weekend, representing the fourth highest-selling box office opening in history (not accounting for inflation)," according to an NPR article.

Since both movies were released on the same weekend, the country seems divided on which one is better. And New England states have a clear favorite...

Now, if you are not familiar with the movies, below is a description of both films from the Rotten Tomatoes website:

Oppenheimer:

During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world's first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.

Barbie:

Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.

A Barstool Sports post has identified which film is trending in which state, and it is REALLY interesting.

So clearly, New Englanders have favored Oppenheimer. Every single New England state is blue (representing more support for Oppenheimer).

What is interesting is comparing the movie trending map to the electoral map of the United States.

Not to get political, BUT...watch the video, and you can make up your mind.

Three of the states with no movie trend are also typically swing states in elections...interesting, or grasping at straws?
