Something very disturbing happened to a woman walking through the Old Port in Portland around 12:30 am Tuesday morning.

According to the Portland Police Department Facebook page, a 32-year-old woman was walking on Fore St. and she noticed that someone was following her as she walked past Silver St. Once she sensed the person behind her she got nervous and picked up her pace.

A man ran up to her and punched her in the face with a CLOSED FIST with such force that she fell to the ground. He ran away toward Union Street. The motive for this act of senseless violence remains unknown.

The post goes on to describe the attacker as a male about 5’7” and he was wearing a backpack. The victim had facial injuries that were treated by paramedics.

This makes me so sad that something like this happened in Portland! I lived in Portland for a short time and always felt safe but this just goes to show you, always walk with at least one other person late at night in ANY city.
