Do you remember the grandness of The Balsams Resort in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire?

The North Woods may be tough to get to, but it's the closest experience you will get to Switzerland without flying.  The glorious White Mountains reach to the sky, with lakes and rivers running throughout.  It's also home to the Grand Duchess of all hotels in northern New Hampshire: The Balsams Resort.

The previous owner closed the resort in 2011, but new owner (and recent inductee to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame) Les Otten is determined to reopen this gem with all its grandeur.

According to thebalsamresort.com, Otten is a pioneer in resort development.

His innate understanding of topography allowed Otten to envision trails and lift placements where others could not, while always respecting and honoring a mountain’s natural features and environment.

Otten purchased Sunday River in Maine from Killington, and turned it into a premiere resort in the Northeast.  That's what the owner wants to do to The Balsams.

Many people have special memories of this majestic place over the years, including weddings, special events, and entertainment.

The Unofficial Networks says the vesting period for Phase 1 to be completed has been extended to January 2032, but it's already been over a decade since the initial plan was drawn up.  This leads to speculation that the project is far behind schedule, while the current structures are falling in disrepair.

However, supporters for the project are optimistic, and the golf course has been maintained.  The Coos Country Planning Board is hopeful the project will bring more commerce to the region.  Investors are welcome.
