5 Seacoast Spots Locals Swear By for Sunrises and Sunsets
There’s something about the Seacoast that just hits different when the sun’s either coming up… or winding down. Maybe it’s the ocean, maybe it’s the way the light bounces off the water, or maybe it’s just that moment where everything feels a little quieter for a second.
Since moving here, I’ve been on a bit of a mission to find those spots, the ones locals swear by, the ones you almost don’t want to share. And whether you’re chasing that perfect sunrise coffee moment or a sunset that makes you stop mid-sentence, these are five places around the Seacoast that are absolutely worth it.
Portsmouth Decks – Portsmouth
There’s just something about being right on the water in Portsmouth when the sky starts to change. Whether you’re near Prescott Park or just wandering the docks, the reflections off the harbor hit different. Sunrise feels calm and quiet… sunset feels like the whole town pauses for a second.
Pro tip: Grab a coffee and get there early, you’ll feel like you’ve got the place to yourself.
Garrison Hill Tower – Dover
If you want that “whoa” moment, this is it. Climb up the tower and you’ll get a full panoramic view of Dover and beyond. Sunrise up here feels like you’re watching the whole region wake up… and sunset? Unreal colors stretching for miles.
Heads up: It’s a quick climb, but totally worth it once you hit the top.
Route 1 – Rye
Driving along Route 1A in Rye might be the easiest way to catch a perfect sunrise. Ocean on one side, sky lighting up in front of you… it’s one of those “roll the windows down and just take it in” moments.

Best time: Sunrise here is the move. The ocean + early light combo never misses.
Winnie the Pooh Trail - Barrington
This one feels a little more hidden… a little more peaceful. It’s not ocean views, it’s quiet woods, soft light coming through the trees, and that golden glow that just makes everything feel slower.
Vibe check: If you’re trying to reset your head for a minute, this is your spot.
Long Sands Beach - Maine
If you’re chasing that classic New England beach sunrise or sunset, Long Sands delivers every time. Wide open beach, waves rolling in, and on a clear day you’ll catch some insane colors over the water.
Bonus: On the right morning, you can even spot the Nubble Lighthouse nearby in that early light.
