How to Help a Milton, NH, Family That Lost Everything in a Fire

A GoFundMe page and a fundraiser have been created to help the Milton family that lost their home in a fire started by a grill early Wednesday morning.

Flames broke out at the house on Northeast Pond Road, which is home to the Corso family and around 3:15 a.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief Tyler Taatjes. The fire was brought under control three hours later thanks to the efforts of fire crews from over a dozen towns, but the house suffered severe damage. A firefighter was treated and released for exhaustion.

Six occupants of the house and a dog got themselves out of the house before firefighters arrived, but several cats died in the fire. One cat named Ducky made it out but has not yet returned, according to resident Michelle Corso.

"Something you may not know is that all the Corsos have helped our community immensely. Andrea as the face you’d see in the office, or the voice on the phone at Milton Elementary, and all 3 Corso boys served as firefighters here in Milton at different points throughout the years," Milton Fire-Rescue wrote on its Facebook page.

GoFundMe, Fundraiser to Help

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family get back on their feet.

"These are not the kind of people to ask anyone for anything but I have had several people reach out asking how they could help," page creator Alesia Palmer wrote.

Two other GoFundMe pages have also been set up for the family and those who lived there.

One was set up by Matt Silverman to help his sister Kristen Silverman, a first grade teacher at the Milton Elementary School according to her Facebook page. She also lived at the house.

Another was set up to help the family's dog named Ollie, who alerted them to the fire.

"Ollie barked his best and loudest barks, waking his dad up in time to get them safely out of the house before a 4-alarm fire took over," Michelle Corso wrote on the page.

McKenzie Farms in Milton and Wakefied said on their Facebook page that they will donate 50% of sales on Saturday to the Corso family. They will also donate 100% of sales of Hobbs Beer.
