These 2 New Additions at New Hampshire’s Story Land, Including a Calming Room, Enhance Accessibility for All Visitors
As if we didn't love Story Land in Glen, New Hampshire enough, they have recently added a "calming room" and an adult changing table to include all kinds of children and developmentally challenged adults.
New England Kids With Autism
There are children with Autism who will not eat, for instance, if they are not in a calm environment. Any parent, regardless of whether their child has autism or not, knows that your kid sometimes won't eat if there's too much going on. That's just one example. Maybe the sounds and smells are just too much for an autistic child. Now the parents have a place to take them in their calming room.
What's an Adult Changing Table?
In case you need further explanation about the adult changing table, let me explain. Say you have a child who is unable to be potty trained because of physical or mental developmental issues and they are the size of an adult. Where are you going to change them when needed? You can't use the baby changing tables and the bathroom stalls are very small to fit two grown adults. Now you have a place to do that with the Adult Changing Table. Brilliant!
Thank you, Story Land for Being the Best in America
The comments on their Facebook page have been very positive. One parent said that they had to lay their son over their laps to get him changed and it was an entire work out. Many other parents said that this is just another reason why Story Land is one of the best in America.
One Mom's comment really made me tear up. The comment said she was a Mother of a 9 year old who is incontinent and unable to potty train because of medical and developmental reasons. Her son also gets easily overwhelmed with sensory overload. She said 'THANK YOU for giving him a place to calm his body when he's having a meltdown' and giving her a place to change his pull-ups in a place other than a small stall on the bathroom floor.
Thank you, Story Land! Way to go for thinking of kids that may not otherwise be able to go!
There's still plenty of Summer left for you to take your little ones. Ticket prices usually range from $40 - $60 with optional add on features.
