New Hampshire, Maine Seacoast Misses Out on Snow Again

As Maxwell Smart used to say on the 60s comedy Get Smart, the snow missed the Seacoast "by that much."

Precipitation falling on Sunday and Monday morning will be all rain for coastal areas of New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts, according to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine. Accumulating snow will fall in northern parts of Strafford County and York County, where a Winter Storm Advisory is in effect starting at 7 p.m. Sunday night through 10 a.m. Monday morning.

The expected heavy rain on Sunday caused the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce to postpone its "Polar Express" holiday parade until Monday at 6 p.m. Roads near the parade route will close after 5 p.m., which will impact the afternoon commute.

The Gray office warns that the rain could turn to light snow Sunday evening in Strafford County and interior York County. An accumulation of two inches or less could create dangerous driving conditions.

Up to six inches of snow could fall in central New Hampshire and inland southern Maine, according to the National Weather Service. The snow will be heavy and could cause tree branches and trees with leafs to fall onto power lines.

Northern New Hampshire and Maine will get the heaviest amount of snow from the storm, with 8-12 inches of heavy snow expected.

The rest of the week looks fairly uneventful, with a warm front bringing a chance of light precipitation and warming temperature at the the end of the week.
