Kira & Logan (Barely) Survived Dave’s Hot Chicken Challenge

Man, I love spicy stuff! Even before I was with child, I carried Tums on me at all times because hot sauce is added to almost every meal I consume; Siracha, Tabasco, Franks Red Hot, Cholula, I love it all. I always considered my threshold for spice to be pretty high. But after today, I am not so sure.

Dave's Hot Chicken recently opened a location in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It is in the plaza next to Whole Foods on Woodbury Ave, where Qdoba used to be. Dave's Hot Chicken was recently named the nation's fastest-growing fast food restaurant.

By now, most of us have experienced a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich in our lives. They are kind of having a moment. So what sets Dave's Hot Chicken apart from the rest? According to Madison.com:

"In a market crowded with chicken sandwiches, Dave's sets itself apart with a crisp, wonderful breading seasoned in accordance with one of seven heat levels, from no spice to “reaper.” Dave's has a small, simple menu"

Davey (not to be confused with THE Dave) from the new location of Dave's Hot Chicken in Portsmouth came by the station to see if Logan and I could handle the heat. He served us three pieces of Dave's Hot Chicken with varying levels of spiciness. The first was mild, the second was hot, and the third was called "The Reaper". They have seven levels of hotness on the scale, so we tried level one, five, and seven. Let's just say it was hard to continue doing a radio show after experiencing level seven. Don't try this at home, kids.
