FDA Recall at Highest Threat: A Popular Chip in New England Could Lead to Death
I have seen and read about a lot of recalls in my life, but I have NEVER seen words like "highest level of risk" and "upgraded recall" before...and it is as serious as it sounds.
The FDA has upgraded a recall on a popular potato chip purchased in New England to the "highest level of severity," according to a NYTimes article.
Lay's Recall in New England:
Fritto-Lay declared a recall on 13-ounce bags of Lay's Potato Chips last month.
The recall threat level, however, was just increased. This is news to me - I had no clue there were levels. I just thought a recall was a recall.
Anyway, the main concern is that an "undeclared ingredient" was found in bags in Oregon and Washington.
So perhaps the odds of the bags being in New England are small; however, the FDA has increased the recall to a Class I, according to the agency on its website.
“a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
The threat increase made me feel the need to share...you never know who is or was traveling, or if a shipment got mixed up...
What is the unidentifiable ingredient and why is it such a threat?
The "unidentifiable ingredient" is milk.
Those allergic to milk products could be at serious risk of health consequences, or death.
The recall increase today, 1/29/2025, has the affected bags dating back to Nov. 3, 2024, according to the NYTimes.
