Less Than 30 People Live in the Least Populated Town in Maine
The first thing out of anybody's mouth, when they're talking about Maine, is, "Maine is so small, everybody knows everybody." (I hate that).
Just when you thought Portland, or Scarborough, or Windham has it bad, where everybody knows your business, try living in THIS tiny town.
What is the least populated town in Maine?
The least populated town in Maine is Frenchboro. This little tiny baby town is located in Hancock County on Long Island and has, according to the US Census Bureau from 2020, 29 people have been living there.
Sizing Stats of Frenchboro, according to Maine Encyclopedia:
Total Area Mileage: 94.6 square miles
Land: 4.8 square miles
At first, truly, this town sounded like a nightmare to live in (sorry to the people in Frenchboro, I'm sure your scenery is beautiful).
But then I saw this Instagram photo, and if this is what the place looks like, I have to retract my statement:
OKAY HOLD ON. LOOK HOW CLEAR THIS WATER IS:
Did I just do a complete 180, and everything I just thought about not wanting to live in such a tiny area, has now become somewhere I might think about going to visit?
Look at this island:
Great Duck Island
You can actually get to this island by ferry from Bass Harbor, Maine.
Maybe this place isn't so bad after all just because it's the least populated town in Maine.
Sidenote: I just thought getting caught at the Shaw's in South Portland with no bra on was bad, I just can't even imagine what grocery shopping in your PJs would be like in Frenchboro.
Sidenote, Sidenote; Here's a list of all the total populations of every county and town in Maine, but check out below the least populated towns in the state.
