If you have Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream in your freezer at home, you'll want to toss or return it lest it make you feel less than... splendid.

The ice cream maker has announced a voluntary recall of all of their ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbets and ice cream sandwiches. They are also destroying over 265 tons of ice cream! Oh the humanity! The reason behind all this is because listeria was found in a couple of batches, and it isn't anything you want to be messing around with. From Jeni's webpage, Jenis.com:

"Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals infected by Listeria may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, infected pregnant women can suffer miscarriages or stillbirths."

While Jenni's isn't widely available locally, it is (er, was) sold at a number of stores in the region so if you happened to pick some up and you're seeking more information, you can email recall@jenis.com or call 614-360-3905 on Mondays or Friday between 9am-5pm. Details are also available at jenis.com/recall.
