How SIG Sauer Helped Make New Hampshire America’s Firearm Capital
I didn't realize this but, New Hampshire quietly became a firearms powerhouse.
I knew the motto was "The Live Free Or Die" state and when I first moved to New Hampshire, I noticed pretty quickly that firearms culture here feels different.
Not louder. Not over-the-top. Just… normal. I must be normal... I'm part of that culture.
You hunt. You shoot recreationally. You train. A lot of us here believe strongly in the Second Amendment. And honestly, living here now and owning firearms myself, I’ve seen firsthand how much of the culture is tied to responsibility, safety, sport, tradition, and personal freedom.
I grew up around the culture, and I taught my kids safety, responsibility, and respect for firearms.
What I didn’t realize until recently is just how massive New Hampshire’s role is in the firearms industry across the entire country.
According to a report from 24/7 Wall St., more firearms are manufactured in New Hampshire than any other state in America. In 2022 alone, nearly 2.9 million firearms were produced here. That’s more than 20% of all firearms made in the United States.
That statistic surprised me.
When most people think of “manufacturing powerhouse,” they probably picture Texas or somewhere down South. Not New Hampshire.
But companies like SIG Sauer have made the Granite State a major player in the firearms world. The report says SIG Sauer’s Newington facility alone accounted for more than 2.3 million firearms in 2022. Wow.
Another major name tied to New Hampshire’s firearms industry is Sturm, Ruger & Co., which has operated manufacturing facilities in Newport since the 1960s. Ruger’s Newport campus includes its well-known Pine Tree Castings operation and has been part of the company’s firearm production for decades.
And honestly… I forgot that Thompson/Center Arms was making a comeback in New Hampshire, too. The company was brought back by former owner Gregg Ritz in 2024 and is rebuilding operations around the Rochester area. They’ve already started relaunching some of their well-known products like the Encore platform and muzzleloaders.
Another one I’ve learned about since moving here is Sampson Manufacturing. They’re based in Keene, New Hampshire, and are known for manufacturing firearm accessories and classic-style folding stocks, especially for Ruger rifles.
And then there’s Q, LLC, right in Dover. They’ve built a pretty strong following in the firearms world for their suppressors, rifles, and innovative designs. Even if you’re not deep into firearm culture, it’s another example of how many nationally recognized firearm companies quietly call New Hampshire home.
Between Ruger and Sampson Manufacturing in western New Hampshire, Thompson/Center in Rochester /Farmington and SIG Sauer on the Seacoast, and Q, LLC in Dover, it’s easy to see why the Granite State plays such a major role in America’s firearms industry.

And whether people agree or disagree politically about firearms, there’s no denying the economic impact in New Hampshire. The industry supports thousands of jobs and generates more than a billion dollars in economic output statewide.
Living here, you realize pretty quickly that a lot of people take firearm ownership seriously. Most gun owners I’ve met around New Hampshire care deeply about safety, training, storage, and respecting the responsibility that comes with it.
Outside the headlines and internet arguments, for a lot of people in New Hampshire, firearms aren’t about politics every single day.
They’re just part of life.
