I don't get it.  How could this happen?

How can a small but mighty state like New Hampshire be on the naughty list?  We are talking about the most egotistical, self-centered, self-absorbed states in America, and New Hampshire did not do well at all.

The survey comes from counselingpsychology.com, where they collected date through Google searches over the past year.  When people searched about narcissism, what defines a narcissist, or the personality disorder, it was registered, and the information was gathered.

It turns out Texas is the most narcissistic state in America, and tied for second was Iowa and New Hampshire.  I can believe Texas was first, with the "everything's bigger in Texas" attitude, but Iowa and New Hampshire in second place is baffling.

Check this out.  Maine was fourth on the list. If you are scratching your head, you are not alone.

The crux of the study was how many people Googled 'narcissism', which was broken into four groups: narcissists, narcissistic families, narcissistic relationships, and narcissism at work.

Some of the key findings are:

  • "Can narcissists change?" is the most searched question by Americans when it comes to narcissism.
  • Moms, husbands, and boyfriends are the most common relationships Americans perceive to be narcissistic.

New York City is home to the most narcissists in America, with Indianapolis, San Jose, and El Paso next in line.  Ironically, Boston ranked as the 8th least narcissistic city, so a  big city isn't necessarily egotistical.

So the next time you are wondering if narcissists can change, be careful where you ask.
