Three months ago, Merrimack School District took homework out of a student's overall grade, and not everyone is happy with the results.

As reported by the Union Leader, the district’s homework policy remains the same. However, the new protocol was implemented after a review of past practice. Practice homework may still be assigned by teachers, but it will not be a graded assignment, meaning it will not factor into a student’s overall grade for a class.

According to the article, the school board will review the change in January. They will be interestined to review data on how the changes are impacting younger students and those with Individualized Education Plans, or 504 plans. Also, how it affects education as a whole.

This begs a few questions. Is learning best for the classroom, and not during non school hours? If proven successful, should homework be eliminated altogether?
