Sharks Took a Bite out of Cape Cod Tourism this Summer

It appears that the Summer of the Shark was not good for Cape Cod tourism this summer.

A Bloomberg.com article says the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is blaming an uptick in shark sightings, and the media overhyping those sightings, along with a strong U.S. dollar and a tornado.

Okay, I understand that we did see and hear a lot more about sharks in 2019 than in previous years.  In fact, according to the Bloomberg.com article, 2017 and 2018 were great performing years for the New England area in regard to summer tourism.

In fact, they were record high years for tourism.  And I understand the part about the U.S. dollar being strong abroad influencing Americans to travel overseas where the British Pound and the Euro were getting us more of a bang for our buck but fear of tornados?

The good news in the story is that it appears that the fall tourism season is off to a great start and tourism is up for autumn.  Tornados still leave me scratching my head.
