Steel from the World Trade Center Makes its Way to Newburyport

There will be a 9/11 Memorial at the Newburyport Fire Department and the first piece to commemorate the memorial arrived with a police escort. Many lined the streets of Newburyport to see the officers give the 80-pound piece of steel from the World Trade Center make its way with a police escort through town according to newbedfordguide.com.

The Design of the Art

According to newbedfordguid.com the steel from the World Trade Center has been fashioned into two vertical pieces meant to represent the Twin Towers.  It will be a permanent display at the Newburyport Fire Department as a way of reminding us all over the country of the attacks of that day and the lives lost.  The Newbury Fire Department in Massachusetts is planning on building a larger memorial and the Twin Towers made of steel from the World Trade Center will be the first installment.

Never Forget

We have a generation of children growing up that have no memory of the attack on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the plane that crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  My youngest was only 9 months old when it happened.  What a wonderful idea to install memorials all over the county so that we never forget the more than 2,600 lives lost that day and the hundreds of first responders that valiantly gave their lives that day.  To most of us, the event still evokes a visceral response, but it is important that our children learn about the attack and the brave men and women that lost their lives.
