Here's to hoping that they don't screw this up.

This weekend the new movie "The Equalizer" comes out starring Denzel Washington. It's based on the 80's TV show of the same name.

We know the movie will differ from the TV show in a few aspects. The show starred the late Edward Woodward who was British. Denzel Washington is not British. The most noticeable difference will be the action. The TV show's hero used brains and training much more than fight scenes. Here in the 21st century, you've got to spend time blowing stuff up and kicking some serious ass if your movie is going to succeed.

I'm OK with all of that. There's been a glut of movies based on old TV shows that have completely screwed up the legacy of those shows. "The Green Hornet", "21 Jump Street" and don't even get me started on Johnny Depp's "Dark Shadows".

Denzel's take on the Robert McCall character will be an updated version of the former intelligence officer now helping people while not talking about his mysterious past. Let's hope Denzel brings his brand of coolness to the character without trying to play it for laughs.

See you at the movies this weekend!
