Twin New Hampshire and Maine ‘DRAGFLY’ Vanity Plates Randomly Meet
I have always liked the idea of having a a vanity plate and being easily identifiable around town. I'm just too lazy to take the steps to make it happen. I also don't have a clever idea of what I would want my vanity plate to say. The obvious choice would be my nickname ever since childhood and my now Instagram handle, KiraLewWho.
How does one go about getting a vanity plate in New Hampshire?
There are a few things you need to know. One is the cost which is completely reasonable (in my opinion) $40 for 12 months.
The second thing you need to know is that you have to fill out an application. It's not long, however, you have to make sure nobody else has the vanity plate that you want to claim.
I just recently learned that the State of New Hampshire has a wicked fun tool you can use before you fill out the application to obtain your vanity plate.
All you have to do is visit this site, enter your vehicle make and model and what kind of plate you want. (for example you can choose from Antique, Conservation, Disabled Vet, Purple Heart, etc If you want regular plates for a regular car select "Passenger".
Next step is the fun part. Enter the name you want on your plate. It will come back as either available, and show you what it would look like, or it will tell you it isn't available and that some other clever Granite Stater got his/her paws on it first.
If you wanted the vanity plate DRAGFLY, I'm here to tell you it's already taken (in both Maine and New Hampshire)

A member of the U Local New Hampshire Facebook page with the name Catherine S. Dragonfly posted about a really fun coincidence that occurred at Belfast Harbor in Maine.
The two ladies not only rock twin vanity plates, they are also both the proud owners of red Toyotas and a gold tooth. What are the chances?
Catherine explained in the post that she and her twin vanity plate sister Dawn both landed on their "dragonfly" totem after a loss. Dawn's was her father, Catherine's was her sister.
We can only hope that Catherine and Dawn keep in touch and that this is the start of a beautiful friendship for these kindred spirits. Thanks for sharing such a cool story, Catherine!
