According to Seacoast Online, Rebecca and Nina are lifelong friends from grade school! They both moved away and started families of their own but they always kept in touch. Nina lives in Cape Ann, Massachusetts and Rebecca lives in Manchester. Nina has a 3-year-old son Vondell and Rebecca has a 3-year-old son Landon. The mothers were determined to let the little guys meet in person and have a play date. They settled on a location, Swasey parkway in Exeter, which is roughly the halfway between the two of them.
Just like their mamas, the two boys hit it off like two peas in a pod. They played tag and hide and seek on the parkway for hours. The moms wanted to grab a photo of the toddlers together. Nina's son Vondell is black and Rebecca's son Landon is white. They are shown in their masks hugging each other and it is the sweetest picture you ever did see.
This part makes me sad. The moms were hesitant to share the photo because of racial tensions in this country right now. They didn't want anyone talking negatively about their sons who were just so happy to meet and become friends. But the article states that the moms agreed that racism of any kind towards anyone is not something they will teach their children. They decided they were going to post the picture.
It was apparently what the country needed to see right now because it has since become a viral sensation. Nina said she hopes her son will someday live in a world where it’s not a big deal at all to see children of different races being friends and playing together.
