Will A New Polar Vortex Sock It To New Hampshire’s This Winter?
After mega out-of-season snowfall, experts forecast a return engagement to the U.S. later this month or in January.
You've heard the term, but WHAT is a polar vortex? According to Wikipedia, Each polar vortex is a persistent, large-scale, low pressure zone that rotates counter-clockwise at the North Pole, and clockwise at the South Pole, i.e. both polar vortices rotate eastward around the poles. The polar vortex became a huge thing a few years ago. During the winter of 2013-14, when much of the Northeast experienced brutally cold temperatures.
Lookout New Hampshire, it's coming back.
USA Today says we shouldn't worry about it being a record breaking polar vortex. Even if it does appear down here, is likely still at least a couple of weeks away. Plus, the vortex isn't like a tornado, where we can see it coming. However, maybe Hollywood could step in. If people are going to devour multiple Sharknado movies, a tongue in cheek polar vortex movie would be something. I'd imagine the we could find a few characters.
Like, this guy.
