Best Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Dover and Portsmouth, NH
One thing I noticed pretty quickly about New Hampshire is that people here love their dogs… and luckily, a lot of restaurants do too. Every day on my way to the radio station I see someone walking their dog down Central Ave. in Dover in the freezing cold.
So it only makes sense that as the weather starts warming up, we start looking for places where we can grab a bite and bring our dogs along too.
You don’t just “go out to eat.” You go somewhere that your dog can come too. The good news is if you live around Dover or Portsmouth, you’ve got a lot of options. The Seacoast is surprisingly dog-friendly, especially when it comes to restaurants with patios, decks, and outdoor seating.
One local favorite is The Farm Bar & Grille in Dover. It’s a popular neighborhood hangout with a big outdoor deck, umbrella tables, and a fun, social atmosphere. If you show up with a dog, you’ll probably see a few other pups already hanging out. Maybe find a new dog park friend.
Another Dover spot worth mentioning is Fat Dog Kitchen. Honestly, the name alone tells you everything you need to know. (I'll see myself out, lol) This breakfast and brunch spot has a small-town vibe and offers pet-friendly sidewalk seating during warmer months. They even keep photos of visiting dogs around the restaurant, which is a pretty Seacoast thing to do.
Over in Portsmouth, there are a few places dog owners tend to gravitate toward that I've found.
Row 34 is known for incredible seafood, but it’s also known for being welcoming to dogs on the patio. Staff members often bring out water bowls and say hello to furry guests before you even sit down.
If you’re looking for waterfront views, Water View Grill is another great option. Their heated, covered patio overlooks the harbor, and dogs are welcome to relax right next to you while you eat.
And if burgers and a lively vibe are more your thing, BRGR Bar at Portwalk Place has a dog-friendly patio that’s perfect for hanging out on a nice afternoon.

One quick tip: Since most dog-friendly dining happens outside, it’s always smart to call ahead or check their social media to make sure patios are open for the season.
Because let’s be honest… half the fun of eating out around here is watching your dog make friends at the next table over.
Most dog-friendly restaurants in New Hampshire allow dogs on outdoor patios only, and policies can vary, so it’s always a good idea to call ahead or check their website.
But honestly, once spring and summer hit, you’ll notice something pretty quickly around the state. Dogs on patios and water bowls under the tables and someone’s dog making friends with every table..
Which, if you ask me, is exactly how going out to eat in New Hampshire should be.
