Multiple Shark Sightings Closes Massachusetts Beach Until October
There was a shark sighting last week at this famous North Shore, Massachusetts beach which closed the beach.
According to Ipswich Police Department, Facebook page, Crane Beach was closed to the public following a shark sighting off the coast of the beach.
Now a new report from Boston25News.com says there have been as many as six shark reports on the Sharktivity App, monitored by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.
The great white shark last week was swimming in about five to seven feet of water according to Boston25News.com.
The great white was spotted off the eastern side of the beach, closer to Essex. It was also cited on the Sharktivity App which tracks sharks along the coast.
There was a great white spotted in Ipswich in the same area on September 12th, but in deeper water.
On September 14th over near a local beach off the community of Great Neck, Ipswich, a smaller shark was spotted jumping out of the water in front of kayakers.
There are occasional seal sightings off Crane Beach, which is not optimal in keeping sharks away, much like Cape Cod.
Ipswich, Massachusetts is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in New England, Crane Beach. The beach is part of The Trustees which runs many cultural and natural state properties, including The Crane Estate, once owned by plumbing magnate Richard T. Crane (you know, the blue crane logo on the toilets).
The beach is closed until October 1 for swimming, but walkers are allowed as long as they don't walk in or near the water. Hikers in the dunes are allowed too. Watch the video below from the first sighting.
