Diver in Distress Rescued Off Coast of New Castle

Training members of the New Castle Fire Department assisted a diver in distress on Saturday morning.

The diver began to have problems around 10 a.m. near the Fort Stark State Historical Site on Wildrose Lane, and members of his party called for help, according to the department. The training members and duty crew were quickly able to get the diver out of the water.

The injured diver and those with him were successfully checked out. The diver's injuries or identity were not disclosed by the New Castle Fire Department.

Firefighters from Portsmouth, Rye, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and the State Police Marine Patrol all responded to the rescue.

The Fort Stark State Historical Site is is a state facility with a small beach offering kayak access to the ocean and Little Harbor.
