A pedestrian was struck by a Hampton Police patrol vehicle in Hampton Beach Sunday evening.

New Hampshire State Police, which is leading the investigation, said the pedestrian was on Ashworth Avenue near Nudd Avenue and the Ashworth By The Sea hotel around 7:15 p.m. when they were struck by the cruiser.

The pedestrian was hospitalized, but the extent of their injuries was not known by police. The officer was not injured, according to State Police.

The identities of the officer and pedestrian were not disclosed. State Police also did not disclose the circumstances of the incident.

A witness told WMUR TV that the cruiser had its lights and siren on at the time

Nudd Avenue is a one way, dead-end street running alongside the hotel.

Portions of Ocean Boulevard and Ashworth Avenue were closed for approximately three hours for an investigation.  State Police are leading the investigation at the request of Hampton Police.
