A special tribute to honor the lives lost during the September 11 attacks will be part of a fundraiser held to benefit Veterans Count this Friday evening.

Renee Plummer, owner of Two International Group in Portsmouth, said the fundraiser will be held on the eve of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 but people will be able to enjoy a light installation donated by an artist who wishes to remain anonymous for hours on Friday and Saturday nights.

The event will be held on the tarmac at Pease International Tradeport, located at 120 Aviation Drive in Portsmouth. Plummer said the lights can be seen from that area.

She took the above photo during a dry run on Wednesday night.

The light installation is similar to the Tribute in Light commemorative public art installation presented every year from dusk until dawn on the night of September 11.

That has become an iconic symbol that both honors those killed and celebrates the unbreakable spirit of New York City, according to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum website.

Plummer, a native New Yorker, keeps a copy of the Guardian newspaper hung in her office with pictures of the Twin Towers on fire. She has been looking at that for 20 years.

Plummer said now it is time to pay tribute to the people who were lost on that horrific day while also honoring the men and women who served our country in the ensuing War on Terror.

Plummer is thrilled to show off some of the items she has obtained to be part of the experience at the Veterans Count fundraiser.

Plummer was able to get the New England Patriots plane for the event. People will be able to admire it.

"The Patriots plane is sitting right there, I'm looking at it," Plummer said on Thursday morning. She was at the site helping to prepare for Friday's event.

Plummer expects about 700 people at the outdoor event and says attendees will be able to participate in auctions and see some of Dean Kamen's newest wheelchairs for veterans.

Plummer said she has an amazing team of individuals she can count on to pull together these affairs to benefit Veterans Count, which is an organization that is close to her heart.

"It was an idea and it started to build so I'm thrilled about this," Plummer said of everything coming together for Friday.

The Veterans Count fundraiser is happening from 5 to 8 p.m. Remaining tickets can be purchased and more information on the event can be found at vetscount.org/nh or on Facebook at VeteransCount.

The lights will be on from 8 p.m. until midnight on both Friday and Saturday, Plummer said.

Veterans Count is a program of Easter Seals NH that provides emergency assistance to our military service members and their families. Ninety cents of every dollar raised for Veterans Count goes directly to New Hampshire’s military members.
