There Was An Unusual Incident in Plaistow, NH, This Week Involving a Dead Turkey in a Tree
Don't you love living in a state where we are so one with nature? For many of us it is common place to spot a deer or two on our drive to work. Even the occasional moose on the loose is exciting but it's still not totally out of the ordinary.
On the Rockingham Alert Facebook page, a deceased turkey was spotted in a tree in Plaistow on Thursday. Now that is unusual, even for our fine state. From what I understand the dead animal was spotted by some children who were horrified, rightfully so. NH Fish and Game were contacted and eventually animal control came to remove the animal. I also heard it was pretty traumatic for onlookers when the animal hit the ground with an enormous *THUD*
I have so many questions! For the purpose of this exercise, since I don't know the gender of the turkey I will refer to him as "he".
- How long had he been up there?
- How did he die?
- Was he stuck up in the tree, injured and unable to come down?
- Was he killed by another animal?
- Did he freeze to death?
- Was he simply old and died of natural causes?
- Though this feels really abnormal, is it more common than we think?
If any turkey or wildlife experts happen to be reading this, please feel free to come forth and educate me.
And finally I'd like to congratulate a dude by the name of Keith Nelson who took the liberty of commenting, "Sounds like fowl play" on the post. Well done, Keith. Somebody had to do it.
