According to WMTW, Lissa Curtis is a professional ballerina who was raped by her former coach while on the World Ballet Tour in Romania back in 2014.

Her story is a shocking one and the fact that she chose to speak out about her trauma in hopes to help others is incredibly brave.

This year Lissa started an amazing non profit organization called Safe Haven Ballet in Dover, New Hampshire. Through fundraising she offers free dance classes to sexual assault survivors.

The site states that Lissa hopes to give her students the strength and hope they need to tackle their next day through dance.

They are rehearsing up a storm in preparation for their first Nutcracker Christmas performance which will be held in North Berwick at the end of the month. The money raised at that performance will go toward future free classes at Safe Haven.

Lissa lived through a traumatic experience. She could have let that defeat her and keep her from doing the thing she loves most. Instead she created something beautiful. Congrats Lissa! Your story is beyond inspiring.
