Shout out to trail cams. If not for 24/7 surveillance of animals on trail cams, we would never know so much about wildlife in our backyard.

Like the fact that porcupines fight.

I never knew that, and if it were not for this video (below), I would not have believed it in the first place.

The first thing I think when I envision two porcupines fighting is...ouch. Don't they both have quills? Sharp quills that will shoot out at each other?

Not really. Porcupines do not shoot their quills but instead, detach from them if a predator were to get stuck with one.

So even though they do not shoot into the sky like a javelin, they still can be stuck on a predator if it is to come in contact with the porcupine quill.

Here is the video of two porcupines going at it in New Hampshire:

I'm not sure how closely you watched...but these two were going AT EACH OTHER.

While we cannot confirm, both porcupines are likely males. And, just like many other animal species (including humans), the men are likely fighting over a woman!

We are currently in the thick of mating season for porcupines. This video is likely the dual to see what porcupine was going to get to mate with a nearby female.

And like usual, the bigger porcupine wins most of the time.
